Job Description

Team Member - Emergency Response Unit
Full time – (Rotating Shifts - Nights and Days)

Derby, Raynesway

Reporting to the Resilience Manager via the Team Leader, the Team Member Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is responsible for delivering the day-to-day operations of the of the ERU and maintaining immediate readiness to respond in an emergency.
In this role you will be expected to work rotating shifts both nights and days

Key Accountabilities:

  • Achieve and maintain competency in the role of an Emergency Response Unit Officer. The role would typically include full competency in Fire & Rescue related response roles, along with related skills to form part of a team responding to, and resolving, Conventional Chemical and Radiological emergency incidents. Specific training in these areas will be provided however evidence of current competency in some or all of these areas is desirable.

  • Achieve and maintain emergency support competencies, for both working at height and confined space activities.

  • Achieve and maintain emergency support competencies in the operational use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

  • Directly support the delivery of technical work and specialist tasks to maintain nuclear safety.

  • Promote Health, Safety and Environmental Safety working arrangements across site, take a leading role in delivering improvements to support this key area.

  • Inform and educate the onsite community to improve awareness of safety matters, facilitate learning through demonstration and instruction.

  • Support the effectiveness of operational response - collect information on risks in the onsite community and make arrangements to mitigate foreseeable risks.

  • Drive, manoeuvre, and redeploy Emergency Response Unit vehicles - Drive vehicles to incidents, Manoeuvre, site and re-deploy vehicles.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Recent demonstrable experience of competency in an Emergency Services Role would be highly desirable for this application.

  • Fully conversant with, and able to discharge the responsibilities relating to their role under, the Site Emergency Arrangements. This would typically involve the ability to carry out emergency operations in fire conditions and hostile environments, wear self-contained breathing apparatus, wear fully enclosed protective clothing, work-at-height, and work in confined spaces

  • Ability to respond to emergency incidents as an Advanced first responder. Current qualifications as an Advanced First Aider/trauma technician or equivalent would be desirable for this role

  • Working knowledge of Fire and Rescue Service Incident Command System, JESIP Principals and Site Emergency Arrangements would be desirable for this role.

  • The ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, the community, and other agencies.

  • Applicants will be required to hold a full valid UK manual car driving licence with a view to undertaking further training to Class 2 HGV level. Current qualification to Class 2 HGV is a desirable element of this initial application.

  • Applicants must meet fitness standards, medical checks including eyesight examinations.

  • This role requires restrictions on facial hair to allow the safe use of close fitting respiratory protective equipment

Shift Work Overview

  • Rotating continuous pattern 24/7 365 days a year coverage.

  • This includes the potential to work on public holidays e.g. Christmas, Easter etc.

  • Shift pattern is currently under review but will include weekend, night and day working patterns. Currently averaged at 42 hours per week in blocks of 48hours.

  • This role includes a requirement to support an additional hours, Standby/On Call Rota to cover unplanned deficiencies in minimum cover levels for the team.

  • Shift allowance will be paid
